There are various types of pipelines in the oil and gas industry. This includes Gathering, Intrastate, Interstate pipelines, and Distribution.
Gathering pipelines are used to transport oil and gas products from a production facility, centrally located around wellheads, to a larger main pipeline for further transportation.
Intrastate Pipelines are large transportation lines used to move oil and gas products within states borders. Interstate Pipelines, often larger and longer than their in state counterparts, are pipelines that cross one or more state borders. Interstate pipelines are often subject to additional DOT (Department of Transportation) rules and regulations governing design, construction, maintenance, and operation.
Distribution pipelines are typically much small in size and length. These pipelines are utilized to distribute finished or refined product to business or homes. A typical example would be a LDC (Local Gas Distribution company), that delivers gas to residential customer, commercial gas accounts, and some small industrial or power generation end-users.
Warren Valve engineered products are used in critical locations spaced along a pipeline’s route. Blocking or isolation valves can be used to segregate off different pipeline sections in an emergency situation or during times of required maintenance. Numerous Warren products (such as trunnion mounted balls, floating balls, gates, and check valves) may be used in operation at each pumping station (for liquids) or compressor station (for gas transmission).
